Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the virtues of family football scholarships and volunteering for the community. First family, he's the youngest of the nine children born to Lucious Selmon and Jessie raised on a farm at Eufala, Oklahoma. The Selmons were also among the three brothers who played for Oklahoma in football. All three made All-America. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy was named the best offensive lineman in the United States by Outland and Lombardi Awards. In his three years as a starter Oklahoma finished 32-1-1 and won two national championships. In 1975, he received his third scholarship, and was recognized as the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon received his bachelor's master's degree in educational studies. Lee Roy was involved in voluntary work for 10 hours a week during his time at college. After college, he moved into Tampa and played for nine years with Tampa's Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro 3 times. After that, he began his professional career. His first job was as a Account Relations Officer with First Florida Bank, Tampa. He was a member in the past for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the country's top 10 young men. While a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 pounds. He coached his university team in the year 1975. In 1993, he joined the University of South Florida's athletic department as the assistant director. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. Parents, Lucious and Mary Selmon Sr. received the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. The award ceremony was conducted by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
